We have an action filled weekend of activities planned as part of Colin Environment week.
On Friday we’ll be starting to plant some native trees at the allotments as part of the 1 million trees in 1 day campaign that is going on all over Ireland this Friday and Saturday. We’ll be planting a huge native fruiting hedge along with a new area of native Irish woodland. If you have a spade bring it with you. http://www.onemilliontreesinoneday.com/
On Saturday we’ll have our family fun day. We’ll continue to plant our trees along with a major litter pick to clean up the allotments. So bring some gloves and if you have extra black bags bring them along to collect the rubbish. We’ll also be sowing some of our wild flower seed at the allotments. We are very lucky to be the pilot project that Groundwork UK and the Kew Botanic Gardens, London are launching called ‘Grow Wild’. The project aims to be create new wild flower meadows across these islands to benefit our communities and our wildlife. We’ll have some food available but please bring some grub to share as well and maybe a flask of tea to warm you up!
So if you’re free come along and bring a friend, wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear for the tree planting.
